Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of a 2023–2024 yearbook for the Ann White Chapter No. 123 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, located in Rock Hill, South Carolina, as well as a memorial service flyer for member Judy Carolyn Staggers Deese (1947–2023). The yearbook includes chapter history, officer and membership information, meeting schedules, programs, and organizational activities documenting the chapter’s ongoing commemorative and heritage work in York County, South Carolina.

The Ann White Chapter was organized in Rock Hill on March 11, 1897, and received its charter on August 7, 1897. The chapter was named in honor of Ann White, a local supporter of the Confederate cause whose two sons served during the Civil War. Early chapter activities focused on supporting Confederate veterans and their families, preserving Southern history, promoting educational and memorial programs, and observing Confederate memorial traditions. One of the chapter’s most significant projects was the fundraising and dedication of a Confederate monument in Rock Hill’s Confederate Park in 1922, later relocated to Laurelwood Cemetery. Throughout its history, the chapter also participated in civic and wartime community service efforts and received recognition at district and divisional levels for its organizational work.

Together, the materials in this collection provide insight into the modern activities, commemorative traditions, and historical legacy of the Ann White Chapter within the broader history of women’s heritage organizations in South Carolina.
