The Lost Colony Play Photograph is of the outdoor drama play The Lost Colony by Paul Green that is produced in Manteo, North Carolina which has been performed in an outdoor amphitheater since 1937. The photograph depicts Mary W. Long of Rock Hill, SC as Queen Elizabeth I a role she played for many years. The play is about Sir Walter Raleigh’s expedition to the New World that landed in North Carolina in 1588. Mary W. Long was the wife of Winthrop Theater Professor and founder of Winthrop Theater Department William Ivy Long, Sr. and is the mother of famed costume designer William Ivy Long, Jr.
