  • Dr. Frances Lander Spain [1903-1999] was a 1925 graduate of Winthrop with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She received a B. L. S. degree from Emory University (1936) and M. A. and Ph. D degrees from the University of Chicago (1940, 1944). Dr. Spain served as the Director of Library and Professor of library science at Winthrop (1936-1949).
