Abstract
Interior Design can create the experience of space by utilizing sustainable elements, colors, and light, shaping the identity of space. Color psychology, lighting, and sustainable elements can develop an insight into how any space affects emotions and experience. Serenity Sports Medicine Clinic and Maternal Essence Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation both accompany individuals who are healing through an intense step-based program. Healing is a therapeutic process of becoming healthy again, which requires a positive and healthy environment. For the thesis, Maternal Essence Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation centers its aspirations of healing expectant mothers by providing a healthful and comforting environment for patients to grow and build connections with their children throughout their recovery process. Upon arrival, individuals will be apprehensive and hesitant due to past substance abuse/ trauma and are uncertain about what their end result may be once they complete the program. This Rehabilitation Center will mentally and physically challenge patients through a program-focused journey, preventing any possible setbacks throughout the recovery process. To create a better experience for patients, research was completed to see how light, biophilic design, and color psychology benefits certain spaces. Incorporating blue, green, and neutral hues, as well as sustainable materials within space, will lift spirits, focus senses, and improve air quality. Additionally, having an exceptional number of windows to enhance daylight helps reduce stress and leads to the final concept for these two projects.
