Historical Note
Abbie Dukes Bryan (1887-1981) valedictorian of her class at Sumter High School Class in 1905 and was a 1909 Winthrop graduate. She taught school in Columbia, SC, Edgefield, SC, Greenville, SC, Chester, SC, and Sumter, SC. She later operated a kindergarten from her home in Sumter, SC.
Scope and Content Note
The Abbie Bryan Papers consist of records from Winthrop Alumna, Abbie Dukes Bryan (1887-1981). Abbie Dukes Bryan was a graduate of Winthrop Normal and Industrial College in 1909 and also served as President of the Sumter Chapter of Winthrop Daughters Club several times. Included in the collection are a Winthrop Memories Scrapbook, three Sumter Chapter of Winthrop Daughters Club minute books, alumnae magazines, early college brochures, and photographs of Winthrop alumnae.
