Scope and Content Note

The Rock Hill-York County Airport (Bryant Field) Expansion Controversy Records document community concerns, administrative responses, and research related to the proposed expansion of the Rock Hill - York County Airport (Bryant Field) during the mid 2000s. The collection includes studies, reports, correspondence, planning documents, and visual materials that reflect the public debate surrounding airport growth, aircraft noise, safety, and land-use planning. Materials in the collection include federal and academic studies on the impacts of aircraft noise— particularly its effects on children’s learning and health—produced by agencies and organizations such as the Federal Interagency Committee on Aviation Noise (FICAN), Cornell University, and the Monitor on Psychology. Also present are opinion pieces and technical guidance relating to airport noise control, safety compatibility standards, and aviation policy.
