Historical Note
The South Carolina State Council of the International Reading Association (SCIRA) was chartered in 1973 and provides a forum for individuals who are concerned with the teaching and improvement of reading in South Carolina. SCIRA’s primary commitment is to promote literacy through the improvement of reading instruction, to encourage reading as a lifetime tool for learning, and to foster the formation of the reading habit.
Scope and Content Note
The South Carolina State Council of the International Reading Association (SCIRA) Records consists of correspondence, minutes, newsletters, highlights, bylaws and policies, board meeting goals and committee reports, financial reports and budgets, invoices, conference summaries, conference booklets, SCIRA and IRA memorabilia and promotional, IRA convention booklets, IRA various papers, applications, directories, educational materials, and various articles related to SCIRA and archival preservation methods.
