Historical Note
Juanita Henderson Neely was born on October 28, 1889 in the Newport Community of York County, South Carolina. She graduated from Winthrop College with an A.B. degree in 1911 and later earned an M.S. degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. After teaching for seven years, she served as County Home Demonstration Agent in Lancaster and York counties, Piedmont District Supervisor and Specialist for Home Demonstration, and from 1947 to 1957 as S.C. State Home Demonstration Director based at Winthrop. She retired in 1957 and lived in the old Neely home in Ebenezer. She died in 1984.
Scope and Content Note
Neely Family History, 1730-1959 by Juanita Henderson Neely chronicles the Neely family of York and Lancaster counties of South Carolina and Gaston and Mecklenburg counties of North Carolina. The family emigrated from Ireland to Pennsylvania around 1730 and were in the Carolinas by about 1750. Please see attached Table of Contents.
