Scope and Content Note
The George Peabody Stamp Committee Records consists of a letter to Dr. Anthony DiGiorgio, President of Winthrop from Peter Torigian, Mayor, City of Peabody, MA thanking him for his letter of support for the effort to have George Peabody (1795-1869) American philanthropist put on a stamp. A copy of the proposal sent to the United States Postal Service which includes a biographical sketch, a graphic illustrating the geographical scope and amount of money given, a list of Congressional Endorsements, and copies of letters of support from varying institutions and other beneficiaries of Peabody’s generosity.
