Scope and Content Note
The Edwin Martin Gettys Papers consist of materials related to Edwin Gettys tenure as a member and chairman of the Rock Hill City Planning Commission. The purpose of the Rock Hill City Planning Commission was “to prepare plans, make recommendations and advise the City Council on matters pertaining to the orderly physical development of the community.” Edwin Martin Gettys (1923-1995) was a member of the Commission from 1967-1978 and Chaiman of the Commission from 1978-1987. Most of the collection documents the growth and planning of Rock Hill, SC from 1967 through 1987 and is a great source for anyway researching the growth of Rock Hill, SC during that timeframe which included the construction of Dave Lyle Boulevard and the Town Center Mall project. The collection itself consists of business correspondence, memoranda, reports, books, and other publications, and miscellany relation to Mr. Gettys’ service on the Rock Hill City Planning Commission.
