Scope and Content Note

The Lizzie Graham McFadden Civil War Reminiscence Collection consists of a typescript copy of a reminiscence by Mrs. J.B. (Lizzie Graham) McFadden about how her father James Graham who helped organize efforts in Chester, SC to feed and shelter Confederate soldiers coming through the area during the American Civil War. Mr. Graham who was too old to fight in the war organized "the ladies in the town into committees, one for each day of the week" who would make certain that "the boys" would be fed and the wounded cared for.

Provenance

The Mrs. J.B. McFadden (Lizzie Graham) Reminiscence was given to the Archives by Mr. and Mrs. Michael Flynt on September 3, 1991.
