Historical Note
The South Carolina Commission on Women was created in 1971 to “study the status of women and make periodic reports to the governor with its recommendations concerning educational needs and opportunities, to disseminate material relating to the rights, responsibilities and status of women.”
Scope and Content Note
The South Carolina Commission on Women Records consist of correspondence, minutes, reports, newspaper clippings, publications, legislation, press releases, speeches, and financial papers. Subjects include; children, wage discrimination, divorce, marriage, domestic abuse, Women’s History Week, Title IX, and health insurance.
Provenance
The South Carolina Commission on Women was donated to the Archives by the South Carolina Commission on Women via Ron Chepesuik on January 27, 1981.
