Historical Note
The South Carolina Federation of Women's Club was organized on June 15, 1898 in Seneca, SC and was admitted to the General Federation of Women's Clubs on July 29, 1899. The Women's Club is one of the oldest nonpartisan and nondenominational women’s service organizations in the country which strives to unite diverse women in a single goal to improve the lives of others by bringing about cooperation between the many women's clubs in the state.
Scope and Content Note
The South Carolina Federation of Women's Club was organized on June 15, 1898 in Seneca, SC and was admitted to the General Federation of Women's Clubs on July 29, 1899. The Women's Club is one of the oldest nonpartisan and nondenominational women’s service organizations in the country which strives to unite diverse women in a single goal to improve the lives of others by bringing about cooperation between the many women's clubs in the state. The South Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs Records consist of a retrospective 10 year history of the formation and early years of the SCFWC, constitutions and bylaws, correspondence, annual reports , minutes, program notes, financial records, yearbooks, directories, speeches, bulletins, magazines, newspaper clippings, and memorabilia. More than half of the collection consists of SCFWC yearbooks, and the South Carolina Clubwoman magazine and its predecessor, the Keystone. These provide a rich source of information on women’s history throughout South Carolina. The records also provide some information on the General Federation of Women’s clubs and the various state organizations which make it up.
