The Church Women United in South Carolina was organized in 1960 as an organization of Protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox and other Christian women denominations that aimed to work together toward building a world Christian community. The Church Women United in South Carolina Records consist of constitutions and bylaws, correspondence, minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, press releases, and financial records, relating to the biracial women’s organization, which works for the betterment of social and economic conditions in the state. Subjects include the organization’s work with Women in Community Service, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), adult education, and the South Carolina Council for the Common Good.

The records of the Church Women United in South Carolina were received as a gift by the Winthrop Archives from Dr. Agnes Hildebrand Wilson, President of C.W.U. in S.C., on January 9, 1979
