Scope and Content Note
The Nancy Windell Memorabilia Collection consists of printed materials associated with local industry and regional tourism, including brochures from the Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company, a tourist booklet titled See South Carolina, and a volume titled Rock Hill Reflections: An Illustrated History by Jack D. Hildebrand (1989). These materials belonged to Nancy Jane McFadden Windell (1927–2017).
Windell was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and worked for more than 34 years in the office of the Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company. She later served as a sales representative for World Book Encyclopedia, substitute taught at Northwestern High School, and volunteered there for over 25 years. In 1988, she was named Volunteer of the Year by the Rock Hill School District.
A lifelong resident of Rock Hill, Windell was a charter member of Oakland Baptist Church and a descendant of Alexander Templeton Black, who donated the land that established the original boundaries of the town.
Provenance
The Nancy Windell Memorabilia Collection was donated by Jane Rawls, the daughter of Nancy Windell and a longtime Winthrop in the College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences Dean’s Office.
