Scope and Content Note
This collection consists of material relating to the White Family, a pioneering family of Rock Hill, South Carolina. The items were acquired from the White Home on E. White Street where the Family resided from 1837 to 2005. Various photographs, memorabilia, letters, postcards, brochures, magazines, newspaper issues, surveys, maps, fashion plates, and legal/financial records comprise this collection. Notable items include a piece of “hair” jewelry worn by one of Ann H. White’s daughter-in-laws following her death in 1880. In addition, a March 1864 Confederate tax form noting “136 ¾ lbs. of bacon due to the government” is included. Other materials relating to prominent White Family members like George Pendleton White (1801-1849), Anne Hutchinson White (1805-1880), James Spratt White, Sr. (1841-1891), and Beatty Jennings White, Sr. (1887-1994) can also be found in this collection.

The White Family Papers were donated to the Winthrop University Archives and Special Collections by Jennifer Sandler, Executive Director of Historic Rock Hill on June 6, 2022.
