Scope and Content Note
The White Sisters Letters were written by Mary Louise White Garrison and her sister Anne White Strawn (1917-2011). Both Mary and Anne were Winthrop College students and graduates. Mary Louise White attended Winthrop College from 1931 to 1935 when she graduated. Anne White attended Winthrop College from 1934 to 1938 when she graduated. The collection consists of letters that Anne White and her sister, Mary Louise White (Class of 1935), wrote to their family while they were undergraduate students at Winthrop College (now Winthrop University) in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The letters date 1931 to 1935 and document their experiences and thoughts while attending the school. Their letters would be helpful for researchers interested in life at Winthrop during the 1930s and school life during the Great Depression.
Provenance
The White Sisters’ Letters were deposited with the Archives on June 8, 1999 by Anne White Strawn.
