Historical Note

The Abortion Interest Movement (AIM) was organized in March 1969 and developed as an extension of the People for Abortion Reform/Repeal. Its purpose is “to educate the citizens of South Carolina about the need for modern abortion legislation.”

Scope and Content Note

The Abortion Interest Movement of South Carolina Records consist of correspondence, newspaper clippings, newsletters from the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL), statements concerning legal actions from the American Civil Liberties Union, issues of the National NOW Times (National Organization of Women), brochures, studies concerning abortions, and pamphlets and notes. The collection offers a good source of information on the movement to repeal abortion laws not only in South Carolina but also in other parts of the United States and in Europe. The Abortion Interest Movement (AIM) was organized in March 1969 and developed as an extension of the People for Abortion Reform/Repeal.
