The York County Plat Book collection consists of microfilm copies purchased from the South Carolina Department of Archives and History of plat books for York County, SC from 1802-1879. The South Carolina Department of Archives and History describes the collection as consisting “of the commissioner's recorded copies of the plats returned to him by the deputy surveyor. A plat is a map drawn to scale of the land surveyed. Information recorded on each entry includes the names of the prospective grantee, deputy surveyor, and, often, surrounding landowners; the boundaries, acreage, and natural features of the land surveyed; and the dates of the warrant and survey. Volume G contains plats relating to the granting of the Catawba Reservation land.”
The Microfilm is organized on two rolls of microfilm. Roll one consists of Part 1 (Old Book A-C) 1802-1817 and Part 2 (Old Book D-F) 1817-1840. Roll two consist of Book G (1841-1879).
