Information on the petitions include name of the petitioner, relationship of petitioner to soldier in Confederate service, name of soldier, statement of petitioner's sole dependency on the absent soldier for support, other people in the household, and number of children. Some give time and amount of last money received from the absent soldier, nature and extent of resources available to the petitioner, and the ages and gender of the children. Each petition contains a statement certifying its truth. Many are annotated to show that they were granted and the amount granted.
