Scope and Content Note
This collection consists of a Church Register of Cedar Grove Church which was part of the Rock Hill Circuit of the South Carolina Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The location of the church is unknown. Reverend John Carlisle Kilgo (1861-1922) was a circuit preacher at the time of this ledger and his name is prominent in the first section. Rev. Kilgo would later become President of Trinity College and later Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. The register contains records of members, baptisms, marriages, and other records of this church from 1886 to 1941 with a majority of the entries being from 1886-1900. Many of the persons listed in the ledger are buried in Laurelwood Cemetery. Prominent member names include: Bolch; Crieghton; Garrison; McCoy; Miskelly (Misskelly and Misskelley); Ratterree (Rateree); Oates;
