Scope and Content Note
This collection consists of 11 letters on Winthrop Letterhead from Gertrude Mitchell (Carson) (1877-1928) to her cousin, Alice Mitchell of Richardsonville, S.C. (Saluda County) concerning her life as a student at Winthrop. Gertrude graduated from Winthrop College in 1900 with a B.A. degree in the Four-Year Normal Course (education). Also included is a Commencement program for the Class of 1897 and a Commencement Invitation for the Class of 1899. This collection is great resource for a glimpse into the life of a female college student in the late 1890s.

The Gertrude Mitchell Carson were received on February 25, 2014 vis Debbie Garrick of Winthrop's Alumni Relations Office from Ann W. Blalock, Executor, Estate of Miriam C. McMillan.
