Historical Note

Walter Anderson Hardin, born and raised in Rock Hill, SC, operated the Rock Hill Body Company until it closed in February of 1987 and then began a long career at Winthrop as Assistant Director and then Director of the Winthrop Physical Plant from March 1987 through June 2018.

Scope and Content Note

The Walter Anderson Hardin papers consists of photocopies of newspaper clippings and articles, correspondence, and photographs mostly related to the Rock Hill Buggy Company, the Anderson Motor Company and Anderson cars, Rock Hill Body Company, and to family members related to Walter Anderson Hardin. Also included are genealogical material including lineage charts related mostly to the Anderson, McCaw, Hardin, Johnson, Belk, and Gill Families. The collection includes many articles that are biographical in nature for John Gary Anderson (1861-1937),Walter B. Roberts (1893-1993), Walter Anderson Hardin (1955-), James Carlisle Hardin, III, and Harry L. Hoy.
