Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of a notebook containing a listing of soldiers who served during World War I in Rock Hill, SC and possibly includes other soldiers from the county. The listing was prepared by a local group of women to help supply socks to these soldiers as possibly part of the Red Cross. Members of the group are listed as are dates the socks were sent. The list of soldiers includes their names, where they served, occasionally what branch they served in, and occasionally whether they died in action. This book would be invaluable for anyone researching Rock Hill, SC’s War efforts during World War I.

Provenance

The World War I Notebook was received by the Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections from the York County Library via Jason Hyatt on August 8, 2019.
