Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of the records kept by the South Carolina Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (SCAIAW) from the first attempts to organize in 1971, through its founding in 1971, and ultimately to the organizations’ dissolution in 1983. SCAIAW was comprised of women coaches and athletic directors that organized to provide a governing body for women’s intercollegiate sports. Included in the collection are financial records, booking agency records, correspondence, minutes, handbooks, membership applications, eligibility affidavits, team rosters, tournament records, all state team rosters, and awards. Also included is “Historical Development of SCAIAW” which provides an outline of early organization development purposes, goals, accomplishments, and officers.
