Event Title
Quality Inclusive eLearning - Bringing Education to Superheroes - Our Students
Location
DiGiorgio Campus Center 220
Description
With approximately 16% of students in North America having a documented disability, and the increased attention being placed on educational institutions by the Department of Justice and the Office of Civil Rights, building accessible digital experiences for education is becoming even more important. But for many schools, doing so can seem like a daunting task. At Blackboard we believe that thinking more strategically about inclusivity allows you to make changes that can not only improve the accessibility of your online courses, but also increase the overall usability and quality of your online programs. Blackboard’s Inclusive Classroom Framework includes approaches to three key parts of the educational experience: the pedagogy, the content, and the technology. It focuses on small changes in thinking, and the use of the right tools, processes, and technology along the way, to make meeting the needs of all students a much easier task to accomplish.
Over the last few years the team at Blackboard has been researching how students with disabilities learn, what the common gaps in knowledge are for teachers, and what some of the key insights are that administrators and disability services officers need to build sustainable practices. Based on this research, we’ve developed a series of tools and services to help you achieve your accessibility goals.
- Blackboard’s Inclusive Classroom Strategy provides teachers with a framework for building inclusive classrooms.
- Blackboard Ally is a three-prong tool focused on helping schools in the following ways:
o Providing institutional insight around the current state of content accessibility
o Providing direct guidance and feedback around content accessibility for teachers o Providing immediate access to alternative file formats for students who need them
- Blackboard’s eLearning Accessibility Solution is a comprehensive set of services targeted at helping schools develop and roll out a sustainable program around accessibility.
This session will provide you with an introduction to inclusive thinking, a demonstration of the Blackboard Ally product, and an overview of our comprehensive accessibility services and how all three of these elements work together to help move schools forward along the accessibility spectrum.
