Scope and Content Note
This collection consists of John F. Townsend’s article “Francis Peyre Porcher, M.D. (1824-1895)” which was reprinted from Annals of Medical History, Third Series, Volume 1, March 1939, pages 177-188. Copyright, 1939, by Paul B. Hoeber, Inc. This article was donated and autographed by the author Dr. John Ferrars Townsend (1880-1962) and is a biography about Frances Peyre Porcher who was a slaveholder and supporter of Succession who volunteered as a surgeon for the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. The book covers Porcher’s personal life and his achievements.
