The first John Sturgis (1637-1684) arrived in Virginia sometime between 1655 and 1661.
Scope and Content Note
John Sturgis (1757-1825) of York County, South Carolina and Morgan County, Illinois: Some of His Ancestors, Siblings, and Descendants Who Lived in Maryland, South Carolina, Georgia, Illinois and Other Points by Gerald Edward Collins relates the family history of the Sturgis family from the 1600s to the 1990s. In addition to genealogical information, the book includes photographs, information on land ownership and purchases, family stories, transcriptions of family and legal documents, and an index of names.
