Historical Note
The MacAskills / McCaskills are one of the oldest families on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The families that settled in North and South Carolina arrived in America between 1770 and 1812. In North Carolina the counties in which the family settled are Anson, Moore, Montgomery and Richmond. In South Carolina they settled in Chesterfield, Darlington, Kershaw, Lancaster, Lee, Richland and Sumter counties.
Scope and Content Note
The McCaskill / MacAskill Family: 1770-1984 chronicles the McCaskill family of North and South Carolina from the 18th century to 1984. The family is a sept of Clan MacLeod. Related family names include Boykin, Burns, Cagle, Campbell, Davis, Dawkins, Freeman, Gillis, Green, Johnson, Lee, Lewis, McIntosh, McKenzie, McLeod, Morrison, Murchison, Parsons, Smith, Thompson, Williams, and Wilson.
