Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of The Fergusons of Pitfour: A Hero & His Family by Dr. Marianne McLeod Gilchrist published in 1999. The book describes the family of James Ferguson (1700-1777) who was a Scottish advocate and second Laird of Pitfour. A good portion of this work is devoted to his son Major Patrick Ferguson (1744-1780), a member of the British military during the American Revolution and his military career that eventually led to his death during the Battle of King's Mountain on October 7, 1780 which took place in York County, SC. Also included in this book are narratives and a family tree detailing the rest of James Ferguson's family.
