Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of a view book titled, The New South published as Volume 1, Number 1 February 1899. The magazine contains an article titled “Rock Hill: The City of the Great Piedmont Region of South Carolina” which describes life in Rock Hill, SC in 1899. The article was produced as an advertisement to recruit new citizens and includes information about crops, plants, schools, and churches. This publication also includes articles on southern historical figures such as, Ann Pamela Cuningham, Florida Governor, William D. Bloxham, Lieutenant William Ewen Shipp, and Wade Hampton. There is also an article titled, “The Philippine Islands: Our New Possessions.”
