Scope and Content Note
This collection consists of a letter to Mrs. Mary Lee Robertson Robinson (1897-1994) from Mrs. Ruth P. Bartlett (circa 1921-1927), two pages of a scrapbook. One devoted to Winthrop student Lucille Godbold and the Olympic games. Consists of two articles and 4 photographs pertaining to Lucille and her Olympic exploits. Articles were taken from The News And Courier newspaper (August 1922). The second page consists of Mrs. Robertson’s notes on proper posture and a poem devoted to posture titled Ode to Posture, as well as a certificate acknowledging Mrs. Robertson’s membership in the “Life Loving Corps Boston School Of Physical Education.” There are two loose newspaper articles; one devoted to Hugh Walpole’s visit to Winthrop College and autobiographical passages from Mr. Walpole, the other article is devoted to Mrs. Robertson’s 9 and 3/4 mile hike with some classmates titled “Cox College Girls Hike To Atlanta In Fast Time Of One Hour And 40 Minutes” taken from The Atlanta Journal May 16, 1916. Collection also includes two Friday, October 20, 1922 issues of the Winthrop College News magazines devoted to Lucille Godbold’s return to Winthrop and her Olympic exploits and one issue of The Johnsonian dated December 1, 1923, and two copies of an October 26, 1953 article from the Evening Herald pertaining to Laura Sidney Robinson’s (Mary Lee’s daughter) marriage to Dr. Harry Courtney Bagby.
