Historical Note
William Buford Worthy was born in Rock Hill, S.C. in 1908 and graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1929. He served in the SC State Legislature in 1933 and 1934. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He served in a number of capacities with the Veterans Administration until he retired from Federal Service in 1958.Worthy worked in Richland County Government until his retirement in the early 1970s. He died in 1993 and is buried at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church cemetery in York County, S.C.
Scope and Content Note
The Worthy Family From Virginia to Texas and Some of Their Kin by William Buford Worthy chronicles the genealogy, family stories, and memories of the Worthy family of South Carolina and other states from the mid 1700s to the 1980s. Ann Worthy, widow of John Worthy and her sons came to Chester County, South Carolina ca. 1785.Other surnames included in the history are Brown, Ferguson, Lee, McFadden, and Tims, Please see the attached Table of Contents.
