Ruth Barr McDaniel was born in Leesville, S.C. on Tuesday May 18, 1909 to Eula Lillian Mitchell and Charlie Decania Barr. She married Raymond Allen McDaniel of Abilene, TX on March 5, 1931 in Leesville. They lived in Abiliene and were the parents of two sons.
Scope and Content Note
Ancestors of Ruth Barr McDaniel and Raymond Allen McDaniel compiled by Ruth Barr McDaniel chronicles the families of the author and her husband from the 1700s to the 1970s. In addition to genealogy, the volume also includes coats of arms, photographs, transcriptions of family documents, letters and diaries, maps, and an index. Family surnames include Allen, Bollinger, Parker, Cayce, Barr-Barre, Quattlebaum, Dowling, Zorn, Rice, McDaniel, Minnick, Mitchell, Scurry, and Abney. Otis Minnick Mitchell was the uncle of Ruth Barr McDaniel. Otis M. Mitchell [1883-1970] served as Superintendent of Winthrop Training School 1928-1941 and Winthrop Professor of Education 1941-1948.
