Scope and Content Note
This collections consists of a 1992 50-page paper by former United States Representative John Spratt (South Carolina 5th Congressional District) who served from 1983 to 2011 concerning the Catawba Indian Land Controversy and includes a brief history of the Catawba Indians. The paper was written by Representative Spratt to explain the background of the Catawba Indian’s land claim. Also included is a letter written to Louise Pettus (Winthrop professor) by John Spratt concerning the settlement of the Catawba Indian Land Controversy.
