Historical Note
Addie Stokes Mayfield was born and raised in the Stokes-Mayfield House. She was a 1933 graduate of the Winthrop Training School and a 1937 graduate of Winthrop College. She would go to teach history for thirty-three years in the Rock Hill, SC school system. The Stokes-Mayfield House was accepted for the National Register for Historic Places May 17, 1984.
Scope and Content Note
This collection consists of an application submitted to the National Historic Register of Historic Places for inclusion of the Greek Revival house located at 353 Oakland Avenue, Rock Hill, South Carolina known as the Stokes-Mayfield House. The application contains historical notes on the history of the families who owned the property and of the property itself. Also included are historical and architectural descriptions and photocopies of photographs, articles, plats, and maps of the house as well. The Stokes-Mayfield house was accepted and entered into the National register of Historic Places on May 17, 1984.
