Historical Note
The Palmetto Literary Society was organized in 1898 in Chester, SC as a women's book club. One of their first objectives of the society was the creation of a public library for Chester, SC which happened in 1900.
Scope and Content Note
The Palmetto Literary Society Records consist of yearbooks of the Palmetto Literary Society of Chester, South Carolina’s for the period 1906-1928 which documents the women’s club’s growth, activities, and history.
Provenance
The Palmetto Literary Society Records were given to the Archives by Mrs. Goody Thomas on February 18, 1983.
