Scope and Content Note
The J. L. McCrorey Civil War Diary contains a photocopied excerpt from a diary of J. L. McCrorey, 2nd Lieut., Co. B, 4th South Carolina Calvary which covers his capture and life as a prisoner of war held by the Union Army during the American Civil War. Lieutenant McCrorey died on August 20th 1864 of "Congestion of the Lungs" while still a prisoner of war. The Diary was transcribed by Margie Peak in October 1940 from the original manuscript in the possession of J.L. McCrorey of Columbia, S.C.
