Scope and Content Note

The Haasis Family Papers consist of family history data, correspondence, literary manuscripts, drawings, photographs, newspaper clippings, financial and legal papers, memorabilia, and other papers of the Haasis family of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and Aiken, South Carolina. Includes club and organizational files for the American Association of University Women, American Rose Society, Smokey Mountains History Club, the Connecticut College Alumni Association, Aiken Naturalists Club, Edisto Beach Yacht Club, the Savannah River Valley Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Rutgers Alumni Association. Subjects include gardening, gold mining, South America, girl scouting, engineering, travel, Europe, China, and India. Also of particular is a Physics Notebook by Julius Friedrich Haasis (1827-1888) in which he illustrates in the margins the political and social turmoil being felt in the 1840s German State and in Europe. Additional Notes

Copies of The Life of North American Insects by B. Jaegar and Diametrical Changed in Tree Trunks By Ferdinand W. Haasis were transferred to Acquisitions to be processed for inclusion in the Archives Special book Collections (See Transfer of Items in Collection Control File).

Provenance

The papers of the Haasis Family of Aiken, S.C. and Perth Amboy, New Jersey were deposited with the Winthrop College Archives on January 30, 1979 by Miss Sarah Bowman, with the approval of Charles Thomas (Farmers and Merchants Bank Trust Department), Executor of the Estate.
