Scope and Content Note

The Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company Certificate Collection consists of a 1956 service certificate awarded to William Garfield Boatwright in recognition of ten years of employment with the Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company. The certificate, signed by William H. Grier, documents Boatwright’s long-term service and reflects employee recognition practices within the textile industry.

The Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Company plant, constructed in 1929, was a major industrial employer in Rock Hill and a significant presence in the southern textile industry. Commonly known as “the Bleachery,” the facility employed more than 4,000 workers at its peak and played a central role in the region’s economic development. The plant ceased operations in 1999.

This certificate provides insight into the workforce and labor history of one of Rock Hill’s most prominent industrial enterprises.
