Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of a miniature faux-leather pocketbook and two souvenir coins from the 1939–1940 New York World's Fair. Branded as the “World of Tomorrow,” the fair was held at Flushing Meadows–Corona Park between April 1939 and October 1940.

These items were collected by Lillian Spratt Hanks Sealy (1894–1957), mother of Dorothy Sealy Rauch, who served as director of alumnae affairs at Winthrop College from 1966 to 1980. One coin bears the fair’s theme and slogan, “The World of Tomorrow,” while the other is engraved with the Lord’s Prayer.
