Historical Note
York, SC is the county seat for York County, SC and is 27 miles southwest of Charlotte, NC and 13 miles west of Rock Hill, SC. Originally know as Yorkville, SC, it was named the county seat in 1785 and was officially incorporated in 1841. In 1915 the citizens voted to shorten the town's name to York.
Scope and Content Note
The History of York Collection consists of a history of York, SC issued by the York Chamber of Commerce. The written history of York(ville), SC covers the period from the Revolutionary War to 1860.
