Scope and Content Note
This Mary Hollis Letters consists of personal correspondence dating from 1932 to 1935, including letters and postcards addressed to members of the Hollis family, primarily Mary Hollis Faris (1911-1986) who was a 1932 graduate of Winthrop College. The correspondence documents family relationships, travel, daily activities, and social life during the period. A significant portion of the letters reflects a courtship between Mary Hollis and her future husband John Franklin “Frank” Faris (1909-1981), offering insight into romantic relationships, social customs, and leisure activities in the early 1930s. The series also includes communications among family members that reference vacations, weather, household matters, and education.
