Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of a 28 page booklet compiled by John P. Thomas entitled “Career and Character of General Micah Jenkins, C.S.A” published in 1903. Included in the booklet is biographical information, tributes, descriptions of battles, reminiscences, and letters. There is also a collection of letters from Micah Jenkins to his family concerning his service in the Confederate Army and a genealogy of the Jenkins Family. Micah John Jenkins was born in South Carolina at Edisto Island in 1835 and died as the result of friendly fire at the Battle of the Wilderness in Virginia on May 6, 1864.

Provenance

The copy of the "Career and Character of General Micha Jenkins, C.S.A" was given to Winthrop Professor E. T. Crowson who in turn donated it to the Winthrop College Library on March 18, 1975. The volume was then transferred from Rare Books Collection to the Manuscript Collection.
