Scope and Content Note
This collection consists of a photograph album documenting the Elder family of McConnells, South Carolina, in York County. The album includes images of family members, fishing trips, and homes built or occupied by the family, as well as notable landmark photographs such as the American Falls at Niagara Falls and the Hotel Amphitrite, a former battleship converted into a floating hotel in Beaufort, South Carolina. Most photographs are candid, unidentified, and undated, but generally date from approximately 1935 to 1945. Together, the images provide a valuable glimpse into the daily life and experiences of a South Carolina family during the 1930s and 1940s.
Provenance
The Elder Family Photographs were deposited with the Archives on January 30, 2002 by Louisa Dills.
