Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of a sketch of the life of General Andrew Jackson that appeared in the Charleston Mercury (Charleston, S.C. newspaper) titled Sketches of the Life and Public Services of General Andrew Jackson and printed by W. Riley In Charleston, SC in 1824. This narrative was published before Andrew Jackson (1767-1845) became the seventh president of the United States. It covers Jackson’s youth, the Creek War, the Battle of New Orleans, the Seminole War, his role in the Indian treaties, his service as Governor of Florida, and his nomination for the presidency of the United States in 1823.
