Historical Note
The James sisters were all graduates of the Winthrop Normal and Industrial College between 1907-1919. The sisters were Grace Rodella James (1887-1982), class of 1907; Oline Barr James (1890-1983), class of 1910; Sarah Bates James (1893-1983), class of 1914; Myrtle James (1896-1994), class of 1916; and William Almaree “Will” James (1898-1981), class of 1919.
Scope and Content Note
The James Sisters Papers consist of personal correspondence between the sisters and their parents while they attended Winthrop and other papers, memorabilia, and photographs relating to their college and professional lives.
Provenance
The papers of the five James sisters, who all graduated from Winthrop Normal and Industrial College between 1907 and 1919, were received as a gift by the University Archives from the Lee County Historical Society; Mrs. Betty Stonebraker and Mrs. John J. Winberry on February 15, 1995.
