Scope and Content Note
The Mary Ona Denny Mathews Papers consist of Winthrop materials collected by Mrs. Mathews. Mary Ona Denny Mathews (1897-1988) graduated from Winthrop College in 1919 and began working at Winthrop in the Business Office from 1919 until she retired in 1942. She married Brig. Gen. Lucius Don Mathews (1893-1972) on August 9, 1924. The collection includes: photographs and negatives of Winthrop Faculty and Staff and Winthrop buildings, holiday greetings cards to Mary, a post card, 1919 Winthrop Students’ Handbook, a fee form, a publication titled, “The Last Meeting of the Confederate Cabinet”, Winthrop Bulletin, Winthrop Weekly News, letters, a Winthrop view book, and memorabilia including a “WC” Winthrop armband and a bookmark.

The Mary Ona Denny Mathews Papers were transferred from the Winthrop Alumni Relations Office.
