Scope and Content Note

The James Wofford Kee, Jr. Papers consists of the genealogy research conducted by James Wofford Kee, Jr. (1918-1993). The collection Kee family genealogy dating back to the 16th century in England and Ireland. Many of the family migrated to the Richburg area of Chester County, S.C. and Texas. Some family names are: Kee, Gladden, Daniel, Bates, Williams, Chesley, Thompson, Edwards, Culp, Ford, Pardue, Lyle, Strait, and Carter. The collection also includes copies of newspaper clippings on various family members, family photographs, church and court documents. Of note are copies of church cemetery records of veterans of the Revolutionary and Civil War.

Mrs. Wofford Kee, Jr. of 241 Gage Street, Chester, S.C. 29706 donated copies of her husband’s papers to the Winthrop University Archives on January 1, 1995
