Historical Note

The National Organization for Women (NOW) South Carolina was organized to improve the status and life of South Carolina Women and to aid in efforts toward the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).

Scope and Content Note

The National Organization For Women- South Carolina Chapter Records consist of correspondence, memorabilia, memoranda, minutes, reports, agenda notes, financial records, newsletters, pamphlets and brochures, flyers, handbooks, newspaper clippings, and a tape recording relating to the organization work to improve the status and life of the South Carolina Women and to their efforts toward ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). Also contained information on the National and South-East Region NOW organizations, along with information on the 1984 Mondale-Ferraro campaign. The National Organization for Women (NOW) South Carolina was organized to improve the status and life of South Carolina Women and to aid in efforts toward the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).

Provenance

The records of the South Carolina Chapter of the National Organization for Women were deposited with the Archives on June 27, 1994, via Julie Lumpkin, Chapter president by the NOW-South Carolina Chapter.
